Outdoor Activities You Can Enjoy in Toronto During the Pandemic

June 14, 2021
toronto outdoor activities

The problem we face is that the COVID pandemic has been going on for over a year, but we still need to travel or feel like we’re getting away from our routine, everyday lives. But there is a way to still do this: plan a getaway to Toronto.

Whether you go on a staycation or a business-related trip, you can enjoy the perfect stay in Toronto, taking advantage of countless options for COVID-friendly outdoor activities. Here are the ways you can enjoy the natural, beautiful side of Toronto, even during the lockdown.

1. Go on a Relaxing Stroll or a Hike

Want to escape from the business of life and immerse yourself in nature? There are numerous walking and hiking trails spread out all across Toronto, so there’s sure to be a trail to suit you. You could take an easy 20-minute stroll at the Glen Stewart Ravine (located just south of Kingston Road and north of Woodbine Beach) or challenge yourself with a 9-km hike on the Beltline Trail (located all across Eglinton West).

Looking to get close to the Beltline Trail? Then you’ll want to stay in the Republic as it’s only a short drive away. What about the Glen Stewart Ravine? We recommend either our James Cooper Mansion or Ten York locations.

Relieve your stress and relax in a peaceful, natural environment. Go to a trail in Toronto to experience its beautiful landscape, such as its lush forests and tranquil rivers.

2. Take a Trip to the Beach

Even though many recreational attractions are closed, Toronto’s beaches are still open. And they can help you take some time to unwind and get outside in the summer.

Take a refreshing swim at one of Toronto’s swimming beaches, like Cherry Beach, build sandcastles with your family, or enjoy a picnic in the sun. You could even simply walk along the beach while taking in the sights.

Want to soak up some sun or lounge on a beach seat under the shade of an umbrella? With its visually pleasing pink umbrellas and white sand, Sugar Beach is just the right place. It’s also a popular site to visit in the winter when it’s topped with soft white snow.

3. Visit Nature Parks

During the pandemic, everyone is spending a lot more time indoors than they’re used to. If you’re missing being outside and want to get some fresh air at a park, Toronto has a lot to choose from.

At a park, you could spend some time outdoors with your family or see your friends in person while socially distancing. Have a picnic, walk through gardens, or go on short trails.

High Park is a popular choice that offers a wide variety of activities, including a small zoo. It’s also famous for being a park where you view the cherry blossoms in bloom in the summer.

4. Walk Through a Public Garden

Toronto’s outdoor public gardens, such as community and allotment gardens, are also open.

Stroll through them while admiring trees and attractively arranged flower beds. Take pictures in beautiful settings, such as the small bridges in Edwards Gardens. And take a moment to pause and sit on a bench while admiring your surroundings in the Toronto Music Garden

Stop and smell the flowers during your business retreat or vacation from work.

5. Take Advantage of Outdoor Recreational Amenities

Although COVID restrictions are constantly evolving, certain recreational amenities, including playgrounds and dog off-leash areas, are currently open. Take advantage of the opportunity to get outside and use these amenities.

Taking your kids to the playground can also help them get moving and be active instead of being cooped up at home.

If you go to High Park, you could take your kids to Toronto’s largest playground, the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground, or give your dogs a feeling of freedom at the High Park Dog Off-Leash Area

Short-Term Rentals & Pets: What You Need to Know When Travelling With Pets

May 13, 2021
short-term rental pets

Leaving your pets behind on a business or personal trip can be difficult.

So, why not take them with you?

While many rental units and hotels may not allow pets to stay on their properties, DelSuites is happy to welcome furry friends in our furnished, all-inclusive rental suites.

Travelling With Pets: The Basics

There are some restrictions regarding pets, so please make sure to research if your pet and your pet’s needs would be suitable to your specific building’s requirements before booking your stay.

Each of our locations has its own special page that outlines pet restrictions, special features, room perks, and services. Click on the building you would like to stay at and scroll down to see all additional requirements and restrictions.

DelSuites Pet Policy at a Glance

Our typical pet policy does state that domestic dogs and cats are welcome as long as they weigh 25 pounds or less, although some additional restrictions may apply.

For example, at the Livmore, pet accommodations permit two pets per suite of any size, while at SkyMark West in Mississauga, pets are not permitted.

Your pets must be leashed at all times in common areas and carried through the common areas. Since there are other guests and residents with their own pets, we want your and your furry friends to be as safe as possible.

As is standard with condo and apartment buildings, pets are not permitted in the recreation facilities in the building. However, if you have emotional support, or a trained and certified animal to help you with an accessibility need, please verify this rule with the building you’re staying at. Service and assistance animals are welcomed at all of our buildings with no additional charge for your stay.

To be courteous of our staff, we ask that if your pet is left alone in the unit on cleaning day, we suggest it be contained for the safety of both your pet and our housekeeping personnel. This can also be a safety issue in case of allergies, or if your pet becomes skittish around a stranger unsupervised.

Please be advised that a $300 + tax non-refundable Pet Cleaning Fee will be charged as part of our cleaning services.

Toronto is a Pet-Friendly City

Are you planning to come to Toronto for work or a vacation, then you’ll want to know that Toronto is an incredibly pet-friendly city. There are numerous dog parks, both off and on-leash for you and your pet to explore while staying at our downtown Toronto rentals.

Some of the most popular dog parks in Toronto include:

  • High Park: Located in the heart of Toronto’s beautiful west-end, This sprawling dog park is one of the biggest in Toronto. High Park is Toronto’s equivalent of Central Park in New York City, making it a great place to breathe in some fresh air as you and your dog walk the long off-leash paths.
  • Cherry Beach: Located in the dock’s district, Cherry Beach is another large off-leash park that includes a beach. Whether you want to walk or let your dog swim, there’s no shortage of options at Cherry Beach.
  • Cedarvale Park: Located in the St. Clair West area, this is another large dog park that’s perfect for dogs of all sizes. The surrounding communities are beautiful as well, making it a great spot to go for an on-leash walk as you take in the city.
  • Wychwood Barns Park: This is another dog park located in the trendy St. Clair West area. While this one is smaller, it is quite busy and has a dedicated community of dog lovers. It’s definitely worth checking out if you want to see the live-in art studios located at the Wychwood Barns.

Some downtown businesses and cafes even permit animals to come inside the establishment.

If you’re coming to the city during the summertime, Toronto boasts a fabulous patio season where pets are welcome at most outdoor patios—just verify with the business before booking your meal reservation.

7 COVID-19 Measures You Should Know About Before Visiting Canada

April 29, 2021
covid 19 measures canada

Travel over the past year has been a whirlwind. Changing restrictions and new safety measures have made international travel a difficult maze of new rules depending on the airport or country you arrive in. Luckily, for travelers coming into Canada, there is some clarity.

COVID-19 definitely disrupted many plans in 2020, but after a year of dealing with this novel virus, Canadian governments and travel institutions can now offer better guidelines for international travel.

Here are seven measures you should know when visiting Canada as we deal with the COVID-19 global pandemic.

1. Masks and Face Coverings

This is the big one.

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, travelers entering Canada through major ports, including airports, transit stations, etc., must wear masks/face coverings at all times.

At Pearson Airport in Toronto, this includes the pre-and post-security screening areas of the terminals, parking facilities, people mover train, sidewalks/curbs outside the terminals, and other outdoor public areas.

There are several special exceptions to this rule in effect. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, you are exempt from the rule provided you have a note from a medical doctor that certifies that you are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons.

2. COVID-19 Testing Before and Upon Arrival

As of February 21, 2021, air travelers will be required to take a COVID-19 molecular test upon landing in Canada.  This testing can occur at the airport or later during their mandatory quarantine period in either a designated quarantine facility or at a suitable place of quarantine.

Before leaving the airport, travelers will also receive a COVID-19 test kit or instructions for taking their test later during their mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

3. Mandatory Quarantine Period

When first coming to Canada, there is a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period for international travelers and social distancing precautions for everyone.

For those coming from specific international hot spots, travelers are to go to a pre-booked hotel while they await the results of their arrival test.

If the test is negative, travelers will continue their quarantine in their home, short-term rental, or designated residence and complete their test kit as instructed.

However, if positive, travelers will be relocated to a designated quarantine facility or other suitable places of quarantine until medically released.

4. Social Distancing Measures

Apart from wearing masks and constant hand-washing, maintaining social distancing when possible is how we can help combat this pandemic.

Many stores, public venues, and restaurants will have limited sitting or restrictions to how many patrons they can accommodate at a time. Keep this in mind when making plans for outings as there might be longer than usual waiting times or queues for shopping.

At DelSuites, your short-term rental allows you to maintain social distancing and have a home away from home. Guests can enjoy premium amenities like a personal kitchen and high-speed internet, so their stay is comfortable and stress-free.

5. Pre-Booked Hotel Upon Arrival

Before departure to Canada, air travelers will need to reserve a 3-night stay in a government-authorized hotel. These new measures are in addition to existing mandatory pre-boarding and health requirements for air travelers with limited exemptions.

Also, the Government of Canada has announced new travel restrictions, including a suspension of flights to Mexico and the Caribbean from January 31, 2021, to April 30, 2021.  New testing and quarantine requirements are also evolving with developments in the pandemic on public health.

6. Restrictions for Meeters and Greeters at the Airport

Are you heading back home? Make sure to say your goodbyes before reaching the airport.

To maintain social distancing and limit high-volume traffic, many major airports have limited terminal access to passengers traveling on the same day and airport employees on duty. Meeters and greeters or those dropping friends and loved ones off at the airport won’t be able to enter the terminals.

7. Stay-At-Home Orders

In some COVID-19 hotspots, government bodies have implemented more strict social distancing measures to curb the spread of the virus and its newly emerging variants.

Depending on the city you are traveling to, make sure to be prepared and informed of possible stay-at-home orders. This preparation can dramatically alter your trip and how you can spend your time in the country.

8. Providing a Safe, Secure, and Cozy Home Away From Home

Traveling to any country can be stressful, especially during COVID-19. With so many restrictions, it can be hard to fully enjoy your trip.  However, having a temporary home with DelSuites’ short-term rentals can make all the difference.

When it comes to travel security and safety, you can be confident you are in good hands. Protecting our guests and associates is our number one priority. Along with abiding by government public health guidelines, we ensure that we are keeping on top of standards of cleanliness and hygiene to keep everyone safe, no matter where you are traveling from.
