Let\u2019s take a close look at one of those exciting neighbourhoods &#8211; Chinatown.<\/p>\n<h2>Introduction &#8211; Chinatown<\/h2>\n<p>Everything from food markets to bars to music shops to vintage clothing boutiques and much more are located within this compact neighborhood, running along Spadina Street. It\u2019s a great place to try some delicious cream buns.<\/li>\n<li>If you are the type of person who is obsessed with beautiful stationery, you\u2019ll love <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.thepaperplace.ca\/\">The Paper Place<\/a>. This shop features gorgeous paper, art supplies, notebooks, books and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>History<\/h2>\n<p>Chinatown in Toronto first began in the 1890s, when many American Chinese emigrated from California (due to the racial conflict there) and from the Eastern USA (due to the economic depression). One of the first to establish here was a man named Sam Ching, who opened a laundry business on Adelaide Street. He was the first Chinese person to be listed in the city directory of Toronto and there is now a lane named after him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delsuites.com\/locations\/toronto-furnished-apartments.php\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6446 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.delsuites.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bigstock-192131242-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"Chinatown Toronto\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.delsuites.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bigstock-192131242-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.delsuites.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bigstock-192131242-768x521.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.delsuites.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bigstock-192131242-650x440.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.delsuites.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/bigstock-192131242.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Chinatown went through two phases in it\u2019s history. There was the original \u201cFirst Chinatown\u201d, which became a slum area for incoming immigrants from the 1890s to the 1950s and was razed in 1955 to make way for Nathan Phillips Square and Toronto New City Hall. Then there is what is known now as the \u201cOld Chinatown.\u201d Although a small Chinese community was already in this location before the 1950s, the businesses that had to be relocated from the first area moved here.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Get There<\/h2>\n<p>Chinatown is accessible by the 510 Spadina and the 506 College Streetcar. It can also be reached from the St. Patrick Subway Station, which is about two blocks west along Dundas Street.<\/p>\n<h3>What\u2019s your favourite spot?
