Whether it’s a natural disaster like a tornado, hurricane, lightning, or flood; damage due to fire, smoke, or water; or any other event that leads to displacement of your policyholders – you know first-hand the devastation it causes.

The homes and lives of your clients have been disrupted in an instant. Now all eyes are on you for the next steps. Even though their policy will likely cover expenses for temporary housing during these challenging times, finding insurance housing is often tricky and time-consuming.

That’s why DelSuites is here for you. Working with us will eliminate the stress of sourcing short-term housing solutions. This lets you zero in on what matters most – helping your policyholders get back on their feet.

DelSuites Makes the Process Easier

Once disaster strikes, families need immediate shelter. Finding temporary housing can be a daunting task, especially during chaotic times. As an adjuster, you have to overcome many obstacles, including:

That’s why insurance adjusters are the perfect choice to help policyholders find fast and secure solutions.

At DelSuites, we understand that finding reliable temporary housing in the wake of a disaster requires speed and accuracy – that’s why we make it easier for adjusters to do their jobs effectively by providing simple online forms or one-phone call bookings for emergency or next-day accommodations.

Plus, our established relationships with Toronto-area insurance providers simplify coverage approvals so displaced policyholders can get into safe and comfortable homes quickly.

Not to mention our efficient search/find criteria feature that meets the insured’s needs and expectations quickly and reliably.

DelSuites Working Together with the City of Toronto

June 22, 2021

DelSuites exists because we believe cities are communities—and the best hospitality, whether you’re traveling, recovering from crisis, or new in town, is living right inside our community. In April 2020, COVID-19 made working together more important than ever. So when DelSuites heard about two chances to help our neighbours most in need—newcomers and Torontonians without homes—as DelSuites president Dan Henderson said, “We jumped at the opportunity.”

All the Fundamentals for a Home

In April 2020, the City of Toronto embarked on a huge, life-saving effort to help Torontonians sleeping on streets and in shelters find safe temporary homes—and prevent the spread of COVID-19. The DelSuites team immediately reached out to Mayor John Tory, Deputy Mayor Ana Bailao, and city staff to see where our expertise could make a positive difference.

What City leadership told us they needed was the things that make a house into a home: our specialty.

So in April 2020, DelSuites donated approximately 22-25 entire apartments’ worth of furniture (valued at $120,000) to two programs: the emergency housing effort, and the Transitional Housing Program for Newcomers to Toronto, which temporarily hosts new Torontonians until they can find permanent homes.

Program participants will receive everything they need to not just use their new space, but leave the stress of not having a stable home behind. They’ll walk in to find everything a home needs, from beds, couches, and kitchen tables to dish towels, sheets, and cutlery.

For newcomers to our city, we’ve contributed furniture that’s theirs to keep when they move to their first permanent Toronto homes. Furniture can be a serious expense for families restarting their lives in a new country, and this substantial donation will let our new neighbours spend their first months here building bright futures, knowing their community is here for them.

For Torontonians without homes, we’ve donated full apartment sets of furniture to fill some of the 250 supportive housing units built. This pilot project is the first in a bold new approach to reducing homelessness in Toronto, and we’ve donated furniture that will turn the bare walls of a new house into the kind of comfort, security, and dignified style we’d all hope to come home to.

The modular units that opened in September 2020, people who started sleeping in shelters and on streets moved into permanent, stable housing—and can focus on health, happiness, and rebuilding their lives.

More recently in June 2021, DelSuites donated an additional 13 furnished suites with a face value of 55K to shelters, supporting the City of Toronto Rapid Rehousing Program

Every piece we’ve provided is durable, modern, stylish, and comfortable, so our neighbours can confidently open their new homes to friends and family—and keep that cycle of hospitality and stability going.

“Not only is it a worthy cause, but it’s an important one. We need to do everything we can to give a comfortable accommodation experience to the people who need it the most in this time of crisis, we hope our contribution makes a difference to these families and our community.” — Dan Henderson, President of DelSuites.

Living the Values of Hospitality

This past year has been a difficult time for the hospitality industry, but in hard times, communities pull together. DelSuites is proud to have partnered with the City of Toronto to help provide comfortable, stable homes for the people who need it most in our city.

We’re glad to have the opportunity to make a positive impact, and underline the belief that’s at the core of why we provide comfortable, community-based, flexible accommodations—homes away from home—every day of the week.

That a little thoughtfulness goes the extra mile, that a comfortable place to sleep at night matters, and that providing good hospitality starts at home—and as part of the community.

Quick Healthy Snacks when You are Busy

August 8, 2016

Quick Healthy SnacksIt can be incredibly challenging to eat healthy when you are travelling. Whether you are on a long flight, a bus journey or an epic road trip, often the only food available is from convenience stores and fast food outlets. Greasy fast food will not only pack on the calories, it will make you feel bloated and tired when you are in transit. If you can bring along some quick healthy snacks on your trip, you can refuel with nutrients that will give you energy and help you feel great.

Looking to prepare some healthy foods for your next trip but don’t know where to start? Here are a few ideas of some quick healthy snacks:

Dried Fruit

This travel snack ticks all the boxes – it is healthy, tasty and extremely portable. It is also great for kids because it won’t make a mess or cause stains in the car or the plane. There are many great tasting types of dried fruit including dried bananas, apple rings and dried peaches. Look for fruit that has doesn’t have any additives like sugar, colour, flavor or preservatives.

Hard Boiled EggsQuick Healthy Snacks

Having travel snacks that are high in protein is important, because the protein will keep you feeling full for longer. Hard boiled eggs are a great travel snack, so boil up a few before you go and keep them in a container. They can last a long time if you don’t peel the shell, as the egg itself is the perfect wrapper.

Trail Mix

Another great portable healthy snack is trail mix. You can bring it along in a Tupperware container or Ziploc bag and grab handfuls whenever hunger strikes. There are lots of different types of trail mix out available out there in the bulk section of the grocery store. Or, you could make your own by combining the nuts, seeds, dried fruits and other items that you prefer.

Granola BarsQuick Healthy Snacks

A store bought granola bar can be the perfect item for keeping you fueled up when you are on the road. However, when choosing your granola bar be aware that some brands are loaded with sugar that you may as well be eating a chocolate bar! Look for these quick healthy snacks with low sugar and plenty of natural ingredients.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a fantastic food! It offers lots of protein and energy and it’s very portable. You could bring along a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter on a road trip and stop for sandwiches whenever you are hungry. You can also bring along some crackers or celery sticks for spreading peanut butter on – whatever tastes good to you. Finally be sure to check out some healthy on the go snacks children love.

These are just some ideas for portable quick healthy snacks that are great to bring with you when you are travelling, so you can satiate your hunger without filling up on junk food and arrive at your destination or furnished apartment in Toronto feeling great.

Our Top New Places to Eat in Toronto Now

June 18, 2015

Places to Eat in TorontoOver the past 8 years, Toronto has rapidly risen its reputation as one of the best cities in the world in which to live, mainly in part due to becoming a destination for a variety of quality restaurants that range in tastes, cultures, and flavours. The best part? They are in short distance of your furnished rental in the metropolis. 2015 has been an exceptional year for many anticipated openings. Here are our favourite eateries and places to eat in Toronto this year, thus far.

1. Bar Raval
Following his success at one of our top ten favourite restaurants, Bar Isabel, Chef Grant van Gameren’s Bar Raval was most anticipated opening of the year and it has not disappointed his loyal following. Those who have ever had to wait for a seat at Bar Isabel can now chow down on Gameren’s Places to Eat in Toronto pinxtos at his stand up bar, morning, noon, and night. The shrimp and cream pinxtos and the Galician octopus are standout dishes. As much as the bar is adored for the food, the architecture by the firm, Partisans, is just as much of a highlight with its all encompassing wooden curves, bars, and peek-a-boo hideouts.

2. La Carnita Eastside
The neighbourhood of Leslieville has embraced La Carnita’s second location in the east and it’s a quick streetcar ride over the bridge across the Don River from your furnished apartment in Toronto. The funky Mexican eatery is serving up the classics like their fish tacos and feature daily specials which range from arctic char and chicken tostadas to shrimp tacos.

Places to Eat in Toronto3. Dailo
Easily walkable from our downtown furnished suites, Dailo is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. The Asian-American infused menu bursts with flavour and texture. Try the fried watermelon, the shrimp and the crispy Argentenian red shrimp served with kimchi grits, and tom yum buerre blanc. The 90 day aged rib eye from Oliffe butchers is served with bok choy, radish, soy pickled mushroom, and Asian chimichurri. It is great to share with a group and well worth the indulgence.

4. R&D
This brand new restaurant on Spadina from Masterchef Canada winner, Eric Chong and his mentor, Alvin Places to Eat in TorontoLeung, is breathing new life for experimentation in the old Strada 241.You’ll be hungry after a short walk from our properties such as the Icon, 300 Front St. and the Element. The Peking duck and lobster chow mein were some of the twists on Chong’s dishes he made for the competition show and getting rave reviews.

5 Benefits of Travelling Light While on Business

June 3, 2015

Travelling LightAs the cost of travelling continues to rise (especially in air-travel), it becomes more essential to pack light and smart, especially if you are on a business trip and on-the-go. Whether you are staying with us for a short-term stay in our furnished apartments in Toronto, we’ve come up with five benefits of why travelling light will help you.

1. Travelling Light Saves You Time and Money When you only have one carry-on, you don’t have to pay the $25 + checked baggage fee nor do you have to wait at baggage claim for your carry-on (which reduces your time to transfer in destination). At check-in, you can also reduce your time in long lines by pre-checking your boarding pass and entering in your info at a kiosk rather than waiting to get your baggage tagged.Travelling Light While on Business

2. Lost Luggage Worries are Gone When you only have one bag or carry-on, you don’t have to worry about it getting lost, delayed, damaged (or worse, stolen). According to the L.A. Times, The total number of bags that were lost, delayed or damaged by airlines around the world were 22 million in 2013 (a 17% reduction from 2012 but there is still a long way to go).

3. Easy Navigation Within Big Cities In a large metropolis like Toronto, you can easily get to the airport via public transport. If you have a bigger bag or more than one bag, however, it will be a more difficult to navigate on a crowded bus or subway. Travelling light enables you to walk through busy train stations, airports, and downtown streets with ease. In many train stations, you also have to take the stairs, which is a simpler task than with a heavy bag or more than one bag/suitcase. Luckily, we do have complimentary airport transportation services as part of our services if you chose to stay with us.

4. You Pack the Essentials PackiTravelling Lightng light forces you to decide which items are necessary for your trip in addition to simplifying your daily routine of figuring out what to wear each day. If you are traveling on business, choose neutrals to build a base. For instance a crisp white shirt which you can easily iron in your suite, a suit, and a black pair of shoes. You can tuck socks into your shoes to save room when packing and keep your toiletry kit to one simple bag either in the corner of your bag or in an easy to find-pocket of your luggage. (Remember: any liquids in your carry-on can be no more than 100 ml.) Packing smarter also enables you to find your things more quickly. A messenger back or lap-top bag is also efficient when you have to take it out during the customs and security check.

5. Flexibility If your flight or trip gets cancelled or delayed, you don’t have to worry about where your luggage is located. You also don’t have to worry about being able to navigate somewhere nearby because you packed light. For a business traveller, you can immediately take your belongings with you if you have to go straight to the office.

Packing light enables efficiency, cost-savings and flexibility. Do you pack light? What are your favourite benefits of packing light?
