What Is The Keg?

If you’re not from Canada and therefore not familiar with The Keg, you’re in for a treat.

Founded in 1971 in North Vancouver, this steakhouse chain has 160 locations all over Canada (as well as locations in five American states). They are known for offering an upscale dining experience and are often built within beautiful restored and refurbished historic properties.

What can you expect from the food at The Keg? Well, first of all – the steaks are their pride and joy.

They only serve the finest cuts of meat, aged for tenderness and seasoned with a unique blend of spices. You’ll have a choice of cuts, from the grilled top sirloin to the bacon-wrapped filet mignon to the New York striploin. Immigrating to Canada

Welcome to Canada. There are quite a few things that you will need to do when you first arrive to get settled in your new home. Let’s look at the five main steps you’ll take when immigrating to Canada.

1. Immigrating to Canada – The Paperwork – Health Card, SIN, Passport and more.

You’ll need to make sure all of your paperwork is in order and you have applied for a few important things such as:

Your Permanent Resident Card, which is proof of your permanent resident status in Canada. Here’s how to apply.
Your Provincial Health Card, which gives you access to healthcare. To get yours, choose your province from the list on this website.
Your Social Insurance Number. (Apply at Service Canada).

When you have lived in Canada for three years, you will be able to apply for citizenship. Once you have become a citizen, you can apply for a Canadian passport.

2. Speaking the Language

Speaking the language, whether it is French or English, is an important part of your life in Canada. To upgrade your skills you can:

Take a look at the language classes funded by the Government of Canada.
Looking for language classes at your local community centre.
Check your local library for language learning materials.
Join a conversation group for language learners.
Check out a language learning app such as Duolingo to practice your vocabulary.

3. Finding a Job

If you are looking for employment in Canada there are many ways that you can find a job:

Check your local classifieds for job listings.
Use a recruitment agency that helps immigrants to find work.
Visit the Employment and Social Development Canada
Canada wants entrepreneurs and is offering a Startup Visa, so consider starting a business.

Great Toronto Museums to Visit

Once you have enjoyed all the great exhibits at the Royal Ontario Museum, there are several other great Toronto museums that you should check out. Here are some of the must-visit stops in Toronto for a museum enthusiast.

The Textile Museum of Canada

You can learn about the history of fabrics and textiles at this museum that’s only a 8 minute walk from the Qwest furnished suites and features a collection of 13,000 pieces dating back to 100 AD. The museum covers nearly 200 world regions and the oldest item in the collection is from the Nazca culture of Southern Peru. From ceremonial cloths to quilts to carpets, it’s a fascinating way to learn about cultures of the past via the clothes they wore and textiles they used.

Learn about the history of Muslim civilizations, in both a historical and contemporary perspective, at this midtown Toronto museum. Hockey is Canada’s iconic national sport and this Toronto museum celebrates the history of hockey in Canada. The Hockey Hall of Fame is a must visit for any sports fan and it’s right on Yonge and Front Street in the heart of the action in Toronto.
